Mexican Government to Present Centennial Gift to UTEP

Centennial Lecture and Concert to Follow

What: Presentation of sculpture Esfera Cuantica by Mexican artist Sebastián
When: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10
Where: Fox Fine Arts Center Plaza, UTEP campus

In recognition of UTEP’s role in educating thousands of Mexican students and as a gift of friendship for the University’s Centennial, the Mexican people will present The University of Texas at El Paso with an original piece by renowned sculptor Sebastián.
The dedication of the sculpture will be followed by an official UTEP Centennial Lecture delivered by Eduardo Medina Mora, ambassador of Mexico to the United States, who will speak on the current relationship between Mexico and the United States. The lecture starts at 5 p.m. in the UTEP Undergraduate Learning Center on Wiggins Road. Medina Mora also will be on hand to dedicate the sculpture along with its creator.

A concert by Mexico-city based jazz group The Matias Carbajal Ensemble will follow at 7 p.m. in the Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall. The concert is presented by the Consulate General of Mexico. Carbajal is Sebastián’s son.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Sun Bowl Parking Garage.
