Rubin Center’s Family Day: The Himalayan New Year
The Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts will celebrate UTEP’s Centennial Year with their Family Day, Losar: The Himalayan New Year. ‘Losar’ is the Tibetan word for ‘new year,’ and in 2014, it celebrates the ‘Year of the Wood Male Horse.’ The architecture of UTEP is based directly on the architecture of Bhutan, and inspires many people in our region to look beyond our own borders. The Rubin Center will celebrate with a day of Bhutanese arts and crafts, meditation for kids of all ages, storytelling from the Himalayan region, a Buddhist tea ceremony and a giant collaborative mandala. All ages are welcome but this event is especially appropriate for ages 4-12, and their families. This event is free and open to the public. The event is supported by the Chenrezig Tibetan Buddhist Cultural Center of El Paso.
