Day 90: Take a Self-guided Tour of UTEP

By on October 3, 2013

walkingtourcoverToday is Day 90 in the Countdown to UTEP’s Centennial Year.

In honor of its Centennial Celebration in 2014, the University of Texas at El Paso has created a series of themed walking tours to highlight different aspects of the UTEP campus and its history.

The first of the tours will give audiences a behind-the-scenes look at UTEP’s Track & Field and Football facilities: Holliday Hall, Kidd Field, the Larry K. Durham Center and the Sun Bowl Stadium. Tours will be conducted on Mondays at 4 p.m., now through mid-December. Tours must be reserved in advance.

Did you know that Holliday Hall was first home to the Men’s Basketball Team until the mid-1930s, or that Kidd Field was the main football stadium until the Sun Bowl Stadium was built in the 1960s? These are just some of the interesting facts shared in this first Athletics Facilities tour. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the Larry K. Durham Center and take in the stunning views of the Sun Bowl.

The tour series is designed to showcase UTEP during its Centennial Celebration to the UTEP community, the El Paso community and out-of-town visitors. Audiences will see how much the campus has changed, and in some cases, stayed the same, in its 100-year history.

Other tours in the “Centennial Tour Series” are:

January 2014 – UTEP Architecture
February 2014 – Arts on Campus (public works of art)
March 2014 – “Glory Road”
April 2014 – Athletics Facilities (Basketbal)
May 2014 – Pick from the previous five tours.
June & July 2014 – UTEP History
August 2014 – Bhutan on Campus
